What does Art. 5 govern?
Art. 5 restricts substances in packaging that endanger recycling or health. It covers above all PFAS in food-contact packaging, the sum of the heavy metals lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium(VI), and substances of very high concern under REACH.
Unlike recycled content there is no transitional quota here: the threshold is either met or it is not. Reguly keeps the measured or supplier-declared values per component and computes the status live against the limits.
Which substance groups does Reguly track?
- PFAS. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Food-contact packaging carries its own limit.
- Heavy metals. Lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium(VI) — the sum is assessed, not the individual value.
- SVHC. Substances of very high concern under REACH, from the notification threshold in the article.
- Bisphenols. Above all BPA in coatings and thermal paper.
