What happens after the tap

Seven answers, in the order of the questions.

A passport is not a table, it is a sequence. First the question everyone has — what is this? — and last the one only authorities ask. Scroll through the chapters; the phone turns the pages with you.

What is this?

Image, brand, name, size, one sentence of description — and right underneath, the way to the next purchase. The passport opens like a good product page, not like a form.

From duty to opportunity

The duty delivers the data. The brand delivers the reason to scan.

The ESPR demands a record — identification, composition, origin, disposal. Those who stop there print a link on the pack that nobody opens. Those who take the passport as a data source and build the brand experience on top get something back that no pack has ever had: the scan.

  1. The scan is the currency.

A QR code gets scanned when something waits behind it: an offer, a story, a game. The mandatory data is there anyway. The incentive is what you put on top.

  2. The first contact after the purchase.

The passport is the only channel that is open while someone holds the product. No newsletter, no app — the pack itself. Whoever answers here, retains.

  3. Every pack becomes a platform.

The mandatory page becomes your brand’s surface: change the offer, swap the video, start a competition — no reprint, for every pack on the shelf at once.

Data that did not exist before

Until now, the story ended at the checkout.

Sold — and then? Before the passport a brand did not know where its product ended up, who held it and what that person wanted to know. Every scan brings that back — where, when, which section, what next. No survey, no panel: the behaviour itself.

  1. Where your product really is.

Scans by region and retailer show a distribution no sell-out report shows — down to the city where the secondary placement is running.

  2. What customers want to know.

Which section gets opened — ingredients, usage, origin — is the most honest market research there is: nobody was asked, everybody answered.

  3. What comes of it.

Redeemed codes, reorders, quiz answers, store finder — numbers that flow into product development, range and marketing instead of ending in an agency deck.

How the passport is made

Three steps, no form.

A product passport needs details from four departments and three suppliers. Nobody should type them in. Reguly gathers what already exists, automatically asks for what is missing — and finally publishes the passport in your brand’s own look.

Product list in Reguly with GTIN, ingredients and the details still missing per product

What is missing, Reguly asks for — not you

For every gap a request goes to the supplier who can close it — in their language, with exactly the questions that are open. Reguly reads the reply from the mail and the data sheet and fills in the values. All you see: done.

The passport — and everything attached to it

The result is not a table but what a customer sees after the scan: product, ingredients, origin, usage — and beyond that brand story, videos, quiz, offer, reorder. One code for every pack, changeable any time, never reprinted.

The maleup product passport on a phone, surrounded by brand story, videos, quiz and offer

When it reaches you

One date is fixed, the rest is an order.

The ESPR introduces the passport product group by product group. Binding today is the battery passport from February 2027; for textiles, furniture, tyres and the other groups the working plan names an order, not a deadline. For cosmetics no delegated act is announced — there the passport is voluntary today, and exactly that is a head start. The DPP check classifies your range in two minutes.

ESPR in force18.07.2024TodayAug 2026Battery passport18.02.2027
2024202520262027202820292030
Voluntary today
  • Cosmetics & personal care
  • Food & beverages
  • Supplements

No delegated act announced. Those who make a passport here do it for the scan — and are the first on the shelf to have one.

Binding

18.02.2027

  • Batteries (industrial, EV, LV > 2 kWh)

The only fixed date — from the Battery Regulation, not from the ESPR.

Expected, in this order
  1. 1Textiles & apparel
  2. 2Furniture & mattresses
  3. 3Tyres
  4. 4Iron, steel & aluminium
  5. 5Paints & detergents
  6. 6Electronics & ICT

The Commission’s working plan names an order, not a deadline. The obligation arises with the delegated act — with a transition period.

The groundwork is the same for all three tiers: product data, identifiers, packaging details. Whoever has them today is done on the day of the delegated act.

Demo

See your product as a passport before you decide.

Bring a product that actually concerns you — with its GTIN and what you know about the packaging. In 30 minutes you see what Reguly merges from it, which details sit with which supplier, and how the passport looks in your brand’s own colours.

About 30 minutes, online. What we set up stays in your tenant — or is deleted afterwards on request.

  • Your article in the Data Hub: what is there, what is missing, where it sits.
  • The supplier request as it would go out — and how the reply gets read in.
  • The passport on a phone, with brand story, offer and quiz as examples.
  • Your product group on the ESPR roadmap, with what is fixed today.

The same packaging data also carries the PPWR evidence. All three regulations at a glance.

Questions

What brands ask us first.

Do we have to make the product passport already?

Binding today is only the battery passport from February 2027. For every other group the obligation arises with its delegated act. Those who start earlier do so not for the deadline but for the scan: the passport is the only channel that is open while someone holds the product.

Where does the data come from — do we have to type everything in?

No. Reguly collects what already exists from shop, ERP, PIM or Excel. What is missing — usually the packaging details — is requested automatically from the right supplier, and the reply is read from mail and data sheet. You see the status, not the work.

What if a supplier does not reply?

Reguly follows up, in the supplier’s language, and shows you per supplier what is open. The passport can be published once the mandatory blocks are in; an outstanding detail is marked as such rather than invented.

Can the passport look like our brand?

Yes. Brand mark, accent colour, product image, tagline, videos, quiz, offer and store finder all come from the passport itself. The maleup passport above is the same passport customers see after the scan — not a mockup.

What does the customer see, what does the authority see?

Both the same page, in the order of their questions: the customer reads at the top what the product is and does; market surveillance and recyclers find economic operator, identifiers and mandatory details at the bottom — and can read the page by machine too.

Does the customer need an app?

No. On iPhone, a tap on the NFC chip opens the passport without installation; Android and desktop get the same page in the browser, and the QR code leads there. One carrier, one address, no detour via an app store.

Do we have to reprint when something changes?

No. Code and chip point at the product, not at a revision. New offer, new video, corrected detail — live for every pack already on the shelf.

Bereit anzufangen?

The first passport is the hardest.

After that it is a list. Create one with a real product — free and without a credit card.

No credit card required.
